The legislation will concentrate on three major themes:
1. Rooting out illegal immigrants and boosting deportations;
2. Reforming immigration and labour market rules to reduce the demand for skilled migrant labour and crack down on the exploitation of low-skilled workers; and
3. Addressing the spike in EU migration by renegotiating in Europe.
Reforming immigration in an effort to reduce the demand for skilled migrant labour will impact most clients. We expect to see changes to the Shortage Occupation List and new programmes to encourage recruitment from within the resident labour market; changes to the visa levy; the creation of a new enforcement agency that will concentrate on cracking down on the worst cases of exploitation; and further changes to the English language requirement.
